Treatment Methods //
There are many treatment methods for varicose veins, including endovenous ablation (EVLA), endovenous microwave ablation (EMWA), injection microsclerotherapy, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy (UGS), ambulatory mini-phlebectomy, cutaneous laser, high ligation and stripping, compression therapy.
Many patients have different types of vein lesions in their legs and need integrated therapy.
ENDOVENOUS MICROWAVE ABLATION (EMWA)
The principle and procedure of endovenous microwave ablation is similar to EVLA. That is, the catheter is inserted into the target vein which is then closed by the heat of microwave energy. The characteristic of microwave is its high power and deep penetration, which is especially useful in treating large varicose veins. It is a walk-in and walk-out procedure that is done under local anesthesia.
Procedure: Under local anesthesia, the target vein is punctured under sono-guide. The microwave catheter is inserted into the vein through a sheath. Then the target vein is closed by the heat produced from the mircowave. The venous reflux is abolished and the patient can walk immediately after the procedure.
