Treatment Methods //

There are many treatment methods for varicose veins, including endovenous ablation (EVLA), cyanoacrylate venous closure (superglue), radiofrequencey ablation (RFA), injection microsclerotherapy, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy (UGS), ambulatory mini-phlebectomy, cutaneous laser, high ligation and stripping, compression therapy.

Many patients have different types of vein lesions in their legs and need integrated therapy.

Cyanoacrylate venous closure (Superglue)

The cyanoacrylate venous closure is a minimally-invasive walk-in-walk-out procedure. It is different from the laser or radiofrequency surgery in that no heat is produced during the whole procedure. Therefore, the patients are free from the risks of skin burn or nerve thermal damage. Most patients can walk immediately after the procedure and do not need compression stockings (except those with leg venous ulcers). Some patients with concomitant sclerotherapy or mini-phlebectomy may need to wear the compression stockings for a short time.

Procedure: Under a small area of local anesthesia (about 2-5mm in diameter), the target vein is punctured under sono-guidance. The delivery catheter is inserted into the target diseased vein through a sheath. Then the target vein is closed by the superglue without pain. The venous reflux is abolished and the venous pressure is lowered accordingly. The patient can walk immediately after the procedure.
